Important notices

How to interpret this evidence.

These statements are provided to help visitors interpret our recordings and measurements responsibly.

Draft legal wording. Obtain Queensland legal review of the actual collection and publication workflow before publicly releasing recordings.

No allegation of unlawful conduct

Too Noisy documents acoustic events and patterns. A recording or classification does not establish that any person, business or organisation committed an offence, breached a regulation or acted unlawfully. We do not attribute legal responsibility through this website.

Measurement limits

Sound levels are digital RMS measurements in dBFS, not calibrated sound pressure measurements (dB SPL). They cannot independently establish compliance or non-compliance with environmental noise laws. Weather, microphone placement, hardware and detector configuration can affect results.

Automated detection

Software flags signals according to configured criteria. Such detections may include ordinary or irrelevant sounds. An event count is not an independent finding of nuisance or wrongdoing. Our public terms “Obnoxious” and “Outrageous” describe subjective human assessments of recorded sounds, not vehicle roadworthiness, driver intent or unlawful conduct.

Audio privacy and removal

Public recordings are subject to human review and privacy screening. If you believe that a recording captures a private conversation or identifies you, contact privacy@toonoisy.org.au to request review or withdrawal.
